On NHL Hockey Ice
So you think you’d like to skate on the NHL hockey ice?
Well, there are many ways to get to skate on NHL ice these days. NHL franchised hockey teams have many different promotions to facilitate your use of their ice. Playing professional hockey on NHL ice is a different story.
Play Pro Hockey – NHL Entry Draft
How does one get to play pro hockey, specifically nhl hockey? To be recruited to the NHL entry draft, NHL prospects are watched and chosen from the CHL (ohl, whl, qmjhl); junior hockey leagues; college hockey leagues from NCAA hockey; highschool and minor hockey; CJHL, USHL, and NAHL. Those players who attract the attention of NHL scouts have extensive hockey training from numerous hockey drills and hours on and off ice. They’ve attended hockey camps and hockey schools, and have superior hockey skills. Some will have to prove themselves in the AHL or even the ECHL first.
Ice Hockey Goals
If your goal is to play ice hockey on an NHL team, then it’s likely that you’ve already put in some effort, and hockey teams may want you also. Their scouts have to find you though. Do you know which are the best hockey leagues to play in to be scouted?
To Be A Pro Hockey Player
Not everyone can be a pro hockey player. Imagine the love of the ice hockey game, the dedication to hockey training, the number of ice hockey games you’d have to play. What would it take for you to play at the pro hockey level, NHL, AHL, or even the major junior hockey or junior A level?
NHL Hockey Ice will cover how to learn hockey so you can get to the NHL, common steps taken to get there, who is likely to get on a NHL ice hockey team, and what it’s like to play team hockey at that level.

What it’s like to live the life of an NHL star.
Is it possible for me to go to the NHL, I am 13 currently in 8th grade sadly only play for single A hockey, but many people say I have the potential to play for a thriple A team. I am known as one of the fastest players on the ice, could you give me some tips to reach the Nhl?
Surely there’s more than just speed in your game, if you’re playing A hockey. Work with coaches and / or get private lessons with those who will help you develop other skills such as edge control, agility, explosive speed, endurance, strength, stick handling, play-making, and shooting. Love it, practice it, make it to the NHL.
Hello I have read the article and was wondering if there can be too much hockey. I am 14 years old and have been playing AAA hockey for 2 years now and I’m getting a regular shift on my high school team. On average I am on and off the ice training 15 hours a week. I plan on playing junior B’s next year and junior A’s the year after. Do I have a chance?
AAA and highschool hockey can be a huge schedule in some areas. I don’t know how many games/practices it equates to in your area, but I don’t think 15 hours is too much hockey/training. Remember you have to play other sports to be well rounded in muscle groups and coordination. Loving the game, not being lazy and taking your talent for granted, and remaining a student of the game are essentials to making it to the NHL.
Hey I’ve been playing hockey for a while but stopped during the Minor Midget years I think, and now I’m 16 and have a dream of making it to the NHL. I was a good player im 6′1 170 and play LW. I was gonna play Midget AAA this year hopefully, and wanted to know if I have a chance of making it? Thanks in advance, Dwight.
It’s not too late Dwight. If you love it, make it happen.
I am 22 years old and I love playing hockey. I never travel anywhere without my skates and I never turn down an opportunity to play. I am not a fan of the adult league at all. I played two years of midget 18 A hockey. At the end of every game I was looking forward the the ext practice and at the end of every practice I would look forward to the next game. I really miss contact competitive hockey. I miss playing for a team that has practice and coach’s. I have been told that I am over obsessed with this game but I do not think that is possible. I have worked hard over the years to be the best player I can be and Im just not ready to become one of thoes players in the beer leagues that are burnt out wannabes. Long story long I just want to know if there is something better then the adult league. A competitive and contact league.
hi i’ve been playing hockey for about 11 years, i play tier 2 AA im about 5′9 150 lbs. in 32 games i have 27 points, i usually kill penaltys and im more of a two way forward. im a sophmore in highschool. i was wondering if i should try out for a local junior A team or try to get into a division 1/2 college
hey, I’m 15 years old and in a freshman in High School (9th grade) in Ohio. I was born in Toronto and my brothers played “AAA” and “AA” up there. One decided to pursue a career in the MLB and the other went to school and got a job after turning down a chance to play juniors from Notre Dame. I play U16 “AA” and am the Captain of my team. 72 m.p.h wristshot and have 45 goals and 50 assists. I work out 5 days a week with a personal trainer and am 5′11” 175. I was wondering what i need to do to play NCAA DI hockey and then NHL. any thoughts or ideas would be great….i practice 3 times a week with my team and our season consists of 65-70 games..Thanks!
hi im 14 years old and i got cut from A because i tryed out for a forward position but i played AA as a defencemen and then I was cut again by my high school team but i scored hat tricks in the 2 tryouts but i got cut and i was wondering is there anyway I can make a junior B team or higher if i play at a “A” level but if i want to play AA the team is 2 hours away and my parents wont let me play or them and i was wonndering if i can get on a junior B team or higher From a “A” team.
Hi, I have been playing street (foot) hockey for about 5 years, im 13 and looking to get on a team but don’t have the money. I try to practice everyday, and join other sports like basketball to help me get stronger and faster. I can shoot the puck hard and fast and I can skate great. Send a reply and tell me if you think I could make the NHL someday.
Continue to love the game, Owen, and that will make you continue to practice. Try to find a way to raise money to get in an ice hockey league.
hey, i have been playing hockey for as long as i know , hockey is in my blood. i have been playing since i was 4, i have taken many hockey camps and you could say im pretty good, i can skate fast, good with the puck, and a team player. im 13 now and in my first year of bantam hockey, im in “C” hockey because i didnt want to try out. a couple buddies of mine who are on the “A” team said, next year i could easily make the team.. i try hard in practice and i work out off ice, and eat healthy nutritiouse food that will get me big, i also have good cardiovascular and i watch alot of hockey taking hints and tips, im 5′8 1/2 and weigh 141 pounds what do you think my chances of making a WHL team or maybe even a junior A team like the surrey eagles?
please leave a response “coach”
Sincerely: Brett

Hi im Slate Gray. Im a 1997, I currently play AAA hockey and im 6′2 160 pounds.
I was wondering if you had any ideas on how i can improve or join any of your hockey camps. My dream is to make it to the NHL. I need help.
Hey, I need help. I hav always dreamed of NHL I am in shape and I can skate. I hav been skating 4 8 years. I really need help. I live in a small town where scouts r never. I dont think my parents would like 2 move to another province. What should I do?
why would you have to move to another province? Is there a city/town within two hours of you with more competitive hockey, or travel programs?
