2010 Olympic Hockey Medals – Men & Women
2010 Olympic hockey is always the highlight of winter Olympics. 2010 winter Olympics (Vancouver, Canada) brought especially exciting Olympic hockey for both women and men. Here’s how it played out for the Olympic hockey gold medals.
The 2010 Women’s Olympic Hockey Team Canada was an overpowering opponent annihilating all other teams except Team USA. When the two met at last in Olympic Finals, they were both undefeated.
Battle For Olympic Hockey Gold
February 25, 2010 two undefeated women’s hockey teams battled for Olympic gold. Both teams amassed an astonishing amount of goals against other teams in the Olympic games and were both very strong. However, against each other they were not as prolific scorers. Final tally: Women’s Team Canada 2, Team USA 0. That’s a gold for Canada, silver for USA, and earlier that same day Finland beat Sweden 3 – 2 for the Women’s Olympic Hockey bronze medal.
2010 Team Canada Men’s Hockey
Both Olympic men’s hockey teams had won two games each when USA beat Canada on February 21, 2010 by a score of 5 – 3 even though Canada out shot USA two-fold. Having been beaten by USA, Team Canada had to play an extra qualification game on the 23rd.
On the 27th, Finland medalled against Slovakia 5 – 3 for the bronze, and the coup de grace on February 28, 2010, Canada triumphed over USA for Olympic gold in Hockey and USA settled reluctantly for the silver medal.
Although it seemed like Men’s Team Canada was slowing down in the second half of the game, a 2 – 1 win still loomed. Until the very end. With only 24 seconds left in the game Zach Parise forced overtime with Team USA’s tying goal.
Team Canada didn’t quite have their OT attack together in the opening of the OT period, but almost 8 minutes into it, Crosby tried to split the defense but lost the puck into the corner. He retrieved it, the ref skate checked him, Crosby poke checked the ref, the puck went to Iginla who fell and passed across toward the net, and as Crosby headed toward left corner of net he received the puck from behind. With a sweeping, almost-wrist-shot Crosby beat Miller for the golden goal. 2010 Olympic hockey gold medal – Canada.
