hi coach im looking to improve my speed if you have any drills/exercises that i could do around the house, in my backyard, or the park that would make me really fast plaese tell me. thank you!
My Off Ice Speed Skating tip is to work into your workout regimen some extreme bursts of speed against lesser resistance in small doses (not heavy weight, not a lot of reps, only three sets).
Report back to me how this is working after two weeks.
The idea is to teach the leg muscles to be able to contract, and then explode with great speed all the way through the entire leg extension.
Don’t mix speed skating training or power skating training with hockey endurance training, because in endurance training you have to wear yourself out.
When worn out, your skating technique may suffer, as you begin to skate in ways you’re not supposed to because you’re tired.
Do hockey endurance training off ice. You can also work on explosive speed off ice.
Another idea for explosive speed skating training: Hop up two stairs at a time (three if you’re big enough). Try to go up a flight of stairs without pausing. Try to do each jump without swinging arms, but just with exploding your compressed leg muscles from their bent position to the fully extended position.
